How to Remove the Protective Film from Stainless Steel?

The term "stainless steel" refers to a group of metal alloys, each containing at least 10.5% chromium. Stainless steel is easy to clean and resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for appliances, plumbing, cookware, and tools. Stainless steel appliances usually come from shops and are covered with a protective plastic film that is held in place by static electricity. Removing this protective film is the first thing you should do once you have brought your stainless steel items home.

Step 1

Look for the edge of the protective film. This edge is usually aligned with the edge on the front of the appliance. The edge may also have a tab designed to make removal easier.

 

Step 2

Insert the tip of a plastic spatula or credit card between the edge of the protective film and the stainless steel. Do not scrape the stainless steel, simply use the plastic to wedge the protective film away from the stainless steel surface.

 

Step 3

Grasp the part of the protective film you have lifted from the stainless steel surface.

 

Step 4

Pull the protective film section away from the stainless steel. If you are starting at the top of the product, pull it down. If you are starting from the bottom of the product, pull upwards.

 

Step 5

Spray the stainless steel with white vinegar and wipe it with a paper towel to remove any residue from the protective film.
